Red Wine Glasses

Red wines are best served in larger bowl shaped glasses. The bigger the bowl, the more air can come in contact with the wine, and therefore releasing flavours. There are 2 main types of red wine glasses, Bordeaux and Burgundy. Bordeaux glasses are a great every day red wine glass. They are tall with an open bowl and straight sides, allowing for a lot of air contact. Burgundy glasses are better for more delicate wines such as Pinot Noir. They are shorter than Bordeaux, with a larger bowl but a narrower opening.

White Wine

If you’re after an all-round white wine glass, we recommend one with long stem and a large bowl. For lighter whites such as Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc, a glass with a smaller bowl is better suited. This helps concentrate the aromatics of the wine. For fuller bodied whites such as a Chardonnay, a larger bowl is recommended.

Champagne Flutes

For your sparkling wines, there are the traditional shaped flutes, as well as some more untraditional shapes such as tulips and coupes. The traditional flutes allow for the bubbles to collect at the bottom of the glass while pouring, and then shoot upwards. This brings forward the aromas and flavours of the wine. If you’ll be having a more mature sparkling wine, a tulip or coupe shape of glass is better suited. The bigger surface area of these glasses allows for air to hit the wine, and release more aromas and flavours.
